“Californians Agree with Senator Leland Yee: David Crane Has Got to Go”
We are everyday Californians. We work hard to provide for our families and strive to make our state the best it can be for all working people. We are private sector and public sector workers alike, and we believe that UC is one of our state’s most important public institutions. We are also parents who hope one day to see our children graduate from a UC school.
We whole-heartedly support
Senator Leland Yee’s callfor blocking the Senate confirmation of former Schwarzenegger aide David Crane as the next University of California Regent. Since being appointed to the UC Board of Regents, David Crane has been riding on a wave of anti-worker sentiment and has been a vocal critic of
public employees. Unfortunately, Crane has said next to nothing about his plan to put our UC back on track. In fact, according to Crane, California has no choice but to accept that not only do our state’s elected officials have zero interest in investing in higher education but neither do its citizens. Our public universities are facing a crisis, and cynicism is simply not the answer.
What California needs now is a UC Board of Regents that will fight to preserve UC in the interests of everyday Californians, fight to preserve UC’s world class reputation while protecting its accessibility for our children, and fight to ensure hard working peoples’ voices aren’t silenced. We need a Board of Regents that is truly representative of us everyday Californians. And, we need Regents who are real leaders and who can help move UC on a path toward effectively calling on our elected officials and citizens to raise UC and funding higher education as a public priority. It’s our university, and we should accept nothing less.
